At ExperCARE, when an employer requests a drug test, the employee is directed to a collection site such as ours. At our facility, the employee’s urine sample is collected in a secure, specially designed cup with a tamper-resistant closure. This sample is then either picked up or sent via express delivery to a certified testing lab.
At the laboratory, the sample is divided into two aliquots. The first aliquot undergoes an initial drug screen using an immunoassay analyzer. If this initial test indicates the presence of drugs, the second aliquot is tested using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to confirm the findings. The results are then reviewed by a Medical Review Officer (MRO), a licensed physician, who determines the final outcome. If the test is negative, the MRO confirms to the employer that the employee has no detectable drugs in their system.
Under new U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, if a sample shows signs of tampering, such as a low temperature or evidence of adulteration, a second sample must be collected under direct observation. During this process, the donor must provide the sample in full view of the collector, demonstrating they are not carrying any substances or devices intended to falsify the test results.
